In this game, you—alone or with a friend (or up to three friends in this updated version)—become the inhabitants of the quiet town of Arkham in New England, working to investigate strange occurrences and uncover hidden secrets. You have your talents, of course, but also weaknesses. Perhaps you have delved too deeply into the Necronomicon, and its words still haunt you. Perhaps you feel the need to conceal any traces of otherworldly evil, hindering your own investigations to protect the townspeople. Perhaps you will be traumatized after encounters with a terrifying cult.
Thanks to an updated organizational system and a series of quality-of-life improvements, the box contains everything needed to begin campaigns in Arkham, including enough cards and components to accommodate up to three additional players in the struggle against the Mythos.
What has changed?
- Support for up to four players with a single base box (the original only supported two players, so three or four required two boxes).
- Two copies of each of the 96 player cards from the original base set (in the initial edition most cards existed as a single copy), some cards received new illustrations, and also two copies of 13 additional player cards released in expansions that were not in the base box.
- Includes a fabric bag for Chaos tokens (not included in the original edition).
- New packaging organization makes it easier to find player and scenario deck cards.
- Additional improvements, such as new numbered resource and clue/demise tokens with numbers 3 and 5, as well as a lead investigator token.
- Revised "Learn to Play" instructions, allowing newcomers to start playing faster.
- This updated edition is 100% compatible with all previously published material. Players who already own previous materials won’t find new cards; the set contains the same cards, just with additional copies (and some new illustrations). Veteran players can continue campaigns using the new two-box format (replacing the old "deluxe expansion + Mythos packs" format) starting with Edge of the Earth.
